“Falling means you just let go and see what happens,” says Emily in Harlequin Productions of Cayuga Community College’s performance: “Falling From Trees” by David Moberg being presented March 19-21, 26-28. This realistic drama is the tale of six teenagers facing significant challenges to their identities and their futures, who seek comfort and support from each other as they discover their own personal courage. Their parents deserting them or worse yet, acting in a way that put their own offspring at risk, causes these needy children to climb up in a tree to find the care they don’t get at home. The first production of this gripping play since it’s premier in Florida features the talents of Kenny Baker and Esther Taylor-Weiss as the central characters in this drama. Joseph, although mentally challenged, is a warm and gentle companion to Emily, the “forest flako” who talks to the trees to find direction in her own confused life. Joining them in their fantasy world of tree law is Brian (Zac Darling), the hero of the football team, Tony (Alaric Robin) the town’s delinquent and Char (Jacqueline Kocur) the cheerleader with skeletons in her own closet. Finally Suzanne B. Smith joins this troubled group as Ellie, another cheerleader but one with strength and compassion earned by weathering problems of her own. Portraying their friends, blind to the troubles of this group are Brie O’Donnell, Mike Davis, Cailin O’Connell, Shelwyn Becker, James Adler, Greg T. Miraglia, Krista Haggett and DeeDe Pace. Stage Manager Martha Reutlinger and Assistant Director Robin Fragoman round out the student involvement in this exciting new work. Liz Dapo, Brad McLean, Allison Fennesy and Fragoman share the design duties. Longtime Harlequin Director, Bob Frame, again is guiding the company to make sure they remain rooted in the work.
Admission is $5 General admission and $1 for Students with ID. All performances are at 8pm in the Bisgrove Community Theatre at the college.
