Beginning today, the raucousness of carnival rides and car races will reverberate as The Big Fair at Auburndale Speedway roars into being for what planners hope will be an annual run. The 12-day carnival emerges to fill a void created by the demise of the 84-year-old Florida Citrus Festival & Polk County Fair, which folded last year after a financial dispute between its organizers and the host city of Winter Haven. The Big Fair won't have the citrus tinge of the venerable Winter Haven event, but it promises the vertiginous thrills of high-powered rides.
